Field Care & Shipping

A QUALITY MOUNT BEGINS WITH PROPER FIELD CARE.

Small Mammals – Do not gut the animal.  The animal should be brought to me for skinning.  Small mammals will spoil quickly because of their thin hides and bacteria.  If you cannot bring the animal to me immediately, as soon as the carcass is completely cooled, put it in a plastic bag being careful to keep fur smooth and freeze.  Contact me for further instructions and/or questions.

BirdsDo not gut the bird.  Try to remove any blood from feathers with a damp cloth.  Bring the bird to me immediately.  If you cannot bring the bird to me immediately, place the bird in a plastic bag being careful to keep feathers and tail smooth.  If bird does not entirely fit in bag let the tail feathers stick out, tie the bag loosely and freeze.  Contact me for further instructions and/or questions.

FishDo not gut the fish.  Bring the fish to me immediately.  If you cannot bring the fish to me immediately, moisten the fish with water, slide gently into a plastic bag, remove as much air as possible without smashing the fish, tie bag and freeze.  Contact me for further instructions and/or questions.  NOTE:  A good quality photo taken mmediately after catching will greatly assist me in duplicating the true colors and markings of your trophy.

Whitetails/Shoulder Mounts – When field dressing,  do not cut into brisket AT ALL!  Skin the deer by circling the body behind the shoulder at approximately the mid-way point of the rib cage behind the front legs.   Slit the skin around the legs just above the knees.  An additional slit will be needed from the back of the front leg and joining the body cut behind the legs.  Roll the skin forward up to the ears and jaw exposing the head/neck junction.  Cut into the neck approximately six inches down from this junction.  Circle the neck cutting down to the spinal column and cut head off.  The hide and head need to be brought to me immediately after skinning.  If this is not possible, fold the hide with the head on top, place in a plastic bag and then it may be frozen.  Contact me for further instructions and/or questions.

Large Full Body Mounts – If possible bring to me and I will skin for an additional fee.  If not, contact me before skinning for instructions pertaining to the style of full body mount you desire.

Trips – If you are planning a hunting or fishing trip out of the area, please feel free to contact me prior to leaving for instructions on field care.

Just remember I can fix a lot of things, but I cannot fix what is not there.
